A shrink wrapper designed for automatic packaging lines

Thanks to its versatile design, this shrink-wrapping machine can be used for regular production, promotional operations, frequent format changes or occasional packaging requirements.

How an automatic PE-film shrink wrapper works

The operating principle of an automatic PE-film shrink wrapper is based on pack formation, film wrapping and, depending on the configuration, passage through a shrink tunnel. Products to be grouped arrive in a single lane and are conveyed by the infeed conveyor to the machine pusher.

A detection sensor checks the number of products required to form the pack. Once the required count is reached, the pusher transfers the row. This operation repeats automatically according to the required number of rows, forming a pack in the requested configuration.

Once formed, the pack is pushed against the PE film curtain and beyond the sealing bar. The bar descends to seal and cut the film around the pack. The pack can then be transferred to the shrink tunnel, producing a neat, stable package suitable for bottles, tubes, pots or cardboard boxes.

FAQ – Automatic Shrink Wrapper with 90° Infeed

Before Starting a Project

At what output does this solution become relevant?

This shrink wrapper generally becomes relevant from around 5 packs per minute, depending on the product type, pack configuration and production organisation.

Can it be integrated into an existing line?

Yes. Its automatic infeed enables autonomous operation and facilitates integration into an existing packaging line. The layout study takes into account the direction of product flow, available conveyors, upstream and downstream speeds, and available space.

Technical Questions

What is a shrink wrapper with 90° infeed?

A shrink wrapper with 90° infeed is a packaging machine in which products arrive perpendicular to the machine’s main axis. They are then grouped automatically before being wrapped in shrink film. This configuration makes it easier to integrate the shrink wrapper into certain production-line layouts.

What products can be wrapped with this shrink wrapper?

This versatile shrink wrapper can handle many products, including bottles, containers, pots, tubes, bags, jars, cans, trays and cardboard boxes. The machine is configured according to the product, its dimensions and the required number of units per pack.

What is the output of this automatic shrink wrapper?

Depending on its configuration, the shrink wrapper can reach an output of 20 packs per minute. A servo-driven version is available for high-speed applications, with outputs of up to 25 packs per minute.

Is pack formation automatic?

Yes. The machine automatically forms packs before film wrapping. The number of products and their arrangement in each pack are defined according to the required format and the needs of the production line.

Can the machine handle multiple formats?

Yes. This shrink wrapper is designed as a multi-format machine. It can be adapted to different products and pack configurations, subject to product dimensions, stability and required output.

What are the main options available?

The shrink wrapper can be equipped with an automatic cardboard pad denester, a multi-lane infeed diverter, a drive system for high-speed operation or a dedicated cosmetics configuration. Automatic in-line or 90° infeed can also be studied according to the line layout.

Does the shrink wrapper include a shrink tunnel?

Yes. The machine can be equipped with an insulated shrink tunnel and an outlet cooling fan. These ensure film shrinkage around the pack and stabilise it before subsequent handling or palletising operations.

How is the right configuration determined for my product?

The choice depends on product dimensions and weight, stability, number of units per pack, required output and line layout. PROPACK studies these factors to propose a suitable configuration, including the required infeed equipment and options.
