The automatic wrap-around case packer from CIEMME, part of the IMA Group, groups and packs different products in a corrugated case formed directly around the product group. This solution is particularly suitable for bottles, containers, boxes, cans, trays, pouches, tubes and frozen products.

Wrap-around case packing provides a flexible solution for creating grouped packs, shipping cases or ready-to-display packaging. Depending on the machine configuration and product format, output can reach up to 20 cases per minute.

Operating Principle of the Wrap-Around Case Packer

Products arrive in a single lane and are taken over by the machine infeed conveyor. They are then grouped or stacked according to the required pack configuration.

At the same time, flat corrugated blanks are picked one by one from a magazine. Each blank is formed into a “U” shape and positioned between the lugs of a transport chain.

When the blank reaches the loading area, a transfer system places the group of products onto the corrugated board. The assembly is then conveyed to the closing section, where the flaps are folded and hot-melt glued.

The wrap-around case packer can also be supplied in a continuous-motion version for packing pots, boxes, cans, containers, bottles or multipacks.

Why choose PROPACK for your wrap-around case packer?

PROPACK has represented CIEMME, part of the IMA Group, for 30 years and supports manufacturers in selecting and integrating their automatic wrap-around case packer. Our team analyses your products, grouping formats, output requirements and layout constraints to define a solution suited to your packaging line.

We also support you in selecting the infeed system, grouping method, case format and peripheral equipment required for reliable and scalable integration.

FAQ – Automatic Wrap-Around Case Packer

Before Starting a Project

At what output does this solution become relevant?

This type of case packing is often difficult to perform manually. Output is therefore not always the main criterion: the choice of a wrap-around case packer also depends on the required final presentation, the type of products, the case format and the production organisation.

Can it be integrated into an existing line?

Yes, this is generally the case. The wrap-around case packer is positioned downstream from a packaging machine such as a cartoner, bagging machine, Top-Load machine or other line equipment.

Technical Questions

What is a wrap-around case packer?

A wrap-around case packer is a packaging machine that forms a corrugated case directly around a group of products. It groups the products, positions the flat corrugated blank and closes the case.

What is the difference between a wrap-around case and an American-style case?

A wrap-around case is formed from a flat corrugated blank. An American-style case is pre-formed by the case manufacturer and is used on side-loading or top-loading case packers.

What is the difference between a wrap-around case packer and a side-loading case packer?

A wrap-around case packer forms the case directly around the group of products from a flat corrugated blank. The products are grouped, placed on the blank, and the flaps are then folded and glued.

A side-loading case packer inserts products horizontally into a previously formed and opened American-style case.

Wrap-around technology is particularly suitable for grouped products and applications requiring the corrugated board to fit closely around the products. Side loading is more suitable for products that can be grouped and then pushed into a pre-formed case. The choice depends on the format, product stability, required output and type of packaging.

How does a wrap-around case packer work?

Products are grouped or stacked on the infeed conveyor. A flat corrugated blank is picked from a magazine, formed and positioned in the loading area. The group of products is transferred onto the blank before the flaps are folded and hot-melt glued.

What products can be packed?

A wrap-around case packer can handle different products such as bottles, containers, boxes, cans, trays, pouches, tubes, pots or frozen products. The configuration depends on their dimensions, stability and required grouping pattern.

What output can a wrap-around case packer achieve?

Depending on the machine version, formats and grouping configuration, output can reach up to 15 cases per minute.

How are the cases closed?

After the products are loaded, the case flaps are folded and closed using hot-melt adhesive. This provides a consistent case suitable for industrial production rates.

Is a continuous-motion version available for high output rates?

Yes. The wrap-around case packer can be supplied in a continuous-motion version for certain high-speed applications, including pots, boxes, cans, containers, bottles or multipacks.

What brand is this wrap-around case packer?

This case packer is manufactured by CIEMME, part of the IMA Group. PROPACK has represented CIEMME for 30 years and supports manufacturers in the study and integration of these solutions.

How do you choose a wrap-around case packer?

The choice depends on the product characteristics, the number of units per case, the corrugated blank format, required output and line layout. A preliminary study makes it possible to define the most suitable configuration.
